Making GFX is different from making sprites MB. Although you are right by saying that these are very simple pieces, they also do not follow any basic GFX rules.
Making 'custom' GFX is a very hard skill to possess.
The lack of C4Ds, and lack of a theme make these pretty poor pieces.
Keep trying though.
I recommend you try some tutorials, they can be found on DeviantArt.
